David Arquette threw a 21st birthday party for Hayden Panettiere, what’s going on?

David Arquette threw a 21st birthday party for his friend and Scream 4 co-star, Hayden Panettiere, in Ann Arbor, Michigan where they’ve been filming the movie. Hollywood Life has the details including some of the attendees. Arquette’s wife, Courteney Cox, was not in attendance from what HL reports but I wouldn’t read too much into that. She may have just stayed back at the hotel with their daughter, Coco, or maybe she’s not currently filming in Michigan, it’s hard to tell. (She was there in late July as David tweeted two photos of them canoeing and having a picnic on the Huron River.) I also wouldn’t assume that there’s anything more than a friendly gesture for a co-worker behind Arquette’s motivations, although he must have gone to a lot of trouble to plan all that. What better excuse than someone’s 21st birthday? Here’s more from Hollywood Life:

If David Arquette ever gets sick of acting, he definitely has a future in event planning; the circus-themed birthday party he threw for his Scream 4 co-star Hayden Panettiere last Saturday at the Cavern Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan sounds amazing!

“It was easily the best party we have even thrown in the 13 years that I have been with the club,” Nick Easton, Cavern Club’s owner and manager, tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively, adding that Courteney Cox’s 38-year-old husband planned everything – including renting out all of the venue’s four lounges – Cavern Club, Circus Bar, Millennium Club and Gotham City – for the bash.

For dinner, David, Hayden as well as cast members Neve Campbell and Emma Roberts noshed on family-style spaghetti & meatballs with chicken; the table was set up so that everyone could look at one another and chat easily. But the food didn’t end there — in addition to a 2/3 foot-tall cake with a dolphin-shaped top which Nick calls “the best chocolate cake I have ever eaten”, David brought in popcorn and cotton-candy making machines (FYI – the dolphin part of the cake was not eaten and is up for sale on Ebay!).

Oh, but there’s more! An animal trainer brought in a lemur so that everyone could take pictures with it before heading to a photo booth. There were 4000 balloons, a light show, tons of circus propped and 25 costumed pimps. Oompa Loompas performed – and there was even a fireworks display!

Most importantly, of course, was the alcohol. According to Nick, the celebration had a full open bar, and the former Heroes starlet did shots with her mom, Lesley Vogel, in celebration!”

“Everyone was in a GREAT mood – happy and drunk. There was no drama, just an all out awesome party,” Nick tells us, adding of the fete’s host, “David is the most down to earth and cool person I have ever met.”

I remember reading that David and Hayden got tattoos together and I thought “uh oh” at the time, but it didn’t really go down like that. Both of them visited a gifting suite at Lollapalooza where tattoos were being given for free. (Zoe Kravitz was there too, and here are some pictures) It’s not like they made a spontaneous decision to visit a tattoo parlor together. Still, they were both at Lollapalooza in Chicago, a full four hours drive from Ann Arbor. I’m sure there will be a few rumors spawned from that along with this elaborate party he threw her. (What’s more is that David tweeted a photo that included Hayden posing next to him, she’s in the purple cap as seen in these other photos, but then deleted it later as it’s no longer on his Twitpic.)

In related news, Arquette has co-founded a new website called Inmoo.com in which filmmakers can distribute movies and viewers can watch them for free. There are over 3,000 films on the site including shorts, previously released feature films, and new releases. He tells Variety that “We’re developing this site with all these kids who are the future of the world. It’s not a pay model at all in the future … there’s a way of harnessing advertising to pay.” I hope it’s a success for him as it sounds like a great idea. I also hope he’s just friends with Hayden and there’s nothing else going on there. I wouldn’t put it past Hayden, though, and we’ve heard for a while that David and Courteney are having trouble. Is Hayden still with her brick sh*thouse of a boyfriend, boxing great Wladimir Klitschko?
