Chelsea Handler on (guess who?) Angelina Jolie: ‘She seems like a demon’
Chelsea Handler is talking about Angelina Jolie again. What else is new? I guess this means that Jennifer Aniston’s wedding is going to be soon, because Chelsea Handler stepped out of her cave and didn’t see her shadow. To briefly review just the bare minimum of all of the dumb crap Chelsea has said about Angelina, here are the basics: the time Chelsea called Angelina a “f—king c—t” in her standup act; the multiple times Chelsea brings up her friendship with Jennifer Aniston in interview after interview and, in the same breath, slams Angelina Jolie; the time (last October) where Chelsea spent like 10 minutes telling Howard Stern that Angelina Jolie is evil and that Brad only stays with Jolie because of the kids. Basically, Chelsea has had a hate-on for Angelina for years, and Chelsea’s hate-on coincides (“dovetails”) nicely with Chelsea signing on to CAA (Jennifer Aniston’s agency) and Chelsea’s vodka-soaked friendship with Aniston. Here’s the latest:
Long before she became best friends with Jennifer Aniston, Chelsea Handler made headlines for publicly bashing Angelina Jolie. During a March 5 appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, the 38-year-old Chelsea Lately host continued to dis the engaged mother of six.
“She seems like a demon,” Handler said of Jolie, 36. “It has nothing to do with Jennifer. As a woman, I know when you see somebody walking across the room that’s a bad girl. I just don’t like Angelina Jolie. I don’t think she’s a girl’s girl. I like girl’s girls!”
Handler last spoke of Jolie when she appeared on the May 2012 cover of More magazine. Explaining that the Academy Award winner doesn’t seem trustworthy, the comedienne insisted Jolie “doesn’t strike me as someone I would have a close friendship with.”
During a Glamour interview with Katie Couric in 2010, Handler was asked to explain why she used Jolie as fodder for her stand-up routines. (The After Lately star once called the Girl, Interrupted actress “a homewrecker” and “a f-cking c–t.”)
“Yeah, I’m not a fan hers,” Handler replied. “She just doesn’t come off to me as a sincere woman. She seems like a woman that you’d really want to avoid.” Aniston, she countered, “makes me laugh. She’s irreverent and hilarious, and she sends me really, really funny e-mails.”
Sure. Fine. Quick question for all of the Chelsea defenders who always claim “But… but… she’s funny!” Is this funny to you? Because it just makes me uncomfortable. It’s not a comedic bit, like Joan Rivers would do and has done about Angelina Jolie. Like, Joan Rivers has said some nasty stuff about Angelina in the past too, but Joan makes the effort to couch the criticisms in traditional “jokes”. And Joan is more of a neutral party too – in that Joan cracks jokes about EVERYBODY. With Chelsea, it’s less of a comedic bit and more like a coked-out Mean Girl doing the hatchet work for her more famous friend. And the fact that Jennifer still hasn’t told her friend to STFU? That speaks volumes to me.
