Will Guy Ritchie's The Covenant starring Jake Gyllenhaal be on Netflix?

With an 81% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes and a talented pedigree of actors and filmmakers, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant is becoming a must-see movie. Releasing on April 21, 2023, The Covenant follows Jake Gyllenhaal‘s character Sgt. John Kinley as he returns to Afghanistan to save a friend.

U.S. Army soldier John Kinley was in Afghanistan during the war when he almost got killed by the Taliban. If it weren’t for his interpreter, Ahmed (Dar Salim), he most certainly would have. John has since returned to America, but when he learns that Ahmed is in hiding from the Taliban and no one will lift a finger to help, John takes it upon himself to go back to Afghanistan and save him.

Guy Ritchie’s latest film will not be on Netflix anytime soon, if ever. The new movie is being distributed by MGM, who have their own streaming service and are now a subsidiary of Amazon, meaning it doubtfully the film will go to Netflix unless a deal is struck.

However, several popular Jake Gyllenhaal movies are now available on Netflix, such as Nocturnal Animals, Prisoners, Southpaw, Velvet Buzzsaw, and Okja. If you’re in the mood for a war movie or show similar to The Covenant, Netflix has War Sailor, All Quiet on the Western Front, 12 Strong, and more.

The only place you can currently watch The Covenant is in theaters. The film will be distributed by MGM in the United States on April 21, 2023. Once it leaves movie theaters, it will probably stream on MGM+ or Prime Video, although it’s unclear exactly when that will happen. The best way to see it is in theaters, as The Covenant likely won’t come to streaming for several months at the earliest.
