Who stars in Rob Zombie's reboot?
This week on Netflix, fans of the 1960s classic horror-comedy sitcom The Munsters will get a new chapter in the story from Rob Zombie. A self-proclaimed fan of the show himself, Zombie’s new movie will function as a prequel to the beloved series.
Set before The Munsters began, Zombie’s film follows Herman Munster as he courts his eventual vampire bride Lily, all while navigating her surly father, known as The Count. Zombie enlisted several of his friends and frequent collaborators to star in the movie, such as his wife Sherri Moon Zombie who plays Lily in the film.
Since the majority of The Munsters‘ cast is covered in makeup, costumes, and prosthetics for the movie, it can be challenging to tell what actors are bringing these colorful, quirky characters to life.
American actor Jeff Daniel Phillips plays Herman Munster, one of Frankenstein’s monsters and the Munster family patriarch. Phillips is best known for playing Tenderloin in Westworld, Fade/Tex in The Gifted, and David Angar in Agents of SHIELD.
Actress Sheri Moon Zombie, who is Rob Zombie’s real-life wife, plays vampire and family matriarch, Lily Munster. Zombie frequently collaborates with her husband on films and has appeared in basically all of his movies. She played Deborah Myers in Halloween and Halloween II, in addition to starring in 31, 3 from Hell, The Devil’s Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses, and more.
The Count is Lily’s sarcastic grandfather and he’s played by Daniel Roebuck. Outside of The Munsters, Roebuck is known for playing Dr. Leslie Arzt in Lost and Cliff Lewis in Matlock. He’s another actor who frequently collaborates with Rob Zombie and has appeared in many of his movies over the years.
Igor is The Count’s pet/assistant and in this movie, he’s played by Scottish actor Sylvester McCoy. Doctor Who fans might recognize him as the seventh incarnation of the Doctor in the original run. He also played Radagast in The Hobbit movies.
This mad scientist is played by Welsh-American actor Richard Brake, who is perhaps best known for playing the Night King in a couple of seasons of Game of Thrones. He also starred in 31, Batman Begins, Perfect Skin, Absentia, and Peaky Blinders.
The Munsters releases this Tuesday, September 27 on Netflix and on DVD and Blu-ray.
