Who is in the movie?

The movie which launched one of 2022’s biggest TikTok trends, Minions: The Rise of Gru, has found a new home at Netflix following its release on the streaming site on January  30, 2023.

Minions: The Rise of Gru, directed by Kyle Balda, is a prequel to the animated 2010 phenomenon Despicable Me. It tells the early story of 12-year-old Gru’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain and the origin story of how he first met his iconic Minions. Part of the synopsis, via Minions2Me, teases:

"“A fanboy of a supervillain supergroup known as the Vicious 6, Gru hatches a plan to become evil enough to join them. Luckily, he gets some mayhem-making back-up from his loyal followers, the Minions.”"

Although we’re still a couple of days away from its debut on Netflix, we thought we’d take a closer look at the cast behind the animated characters.

The animated comedy, which has been branded as “the biggest global animated franchise in history” has an A-list cast to voice the characters! Oscar nominee Steve Carell returned to voice the legendary supervillain Gru, and Dame Julie Andrews DBE returned as his mom!  There are plenty of other note-worthy and award-winning actors in the lineup!
