Sharon Stone given just 1% chance of survival after 9-day horror health scare
Sharon Stone has opened up in a new interview about a near-death experience where she was given just a 1% chance of survival.
The Hollywood actress rose to fame when she starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall in 1990. However, she’s not had an easy ride as in 2001 she faced a ‘horror health scare.’
Sharon Stone given 1% chance of survival
In 2001, the movie star suffered from a ruptured vertebral artery, which caused internal bleeding in her brain for nine days.
Due to the severity of the health issue, she was given just a 1% chance of survival. 22 years later, the star is opening up about the harrowing time in her life in an interview with PEOPLE, as she says her father was the only one by her side.
“My father was there for me, but I would say that was about it. I understand if you want to live with solid citizens, don’t come to Hollywood.”
Months before her health scare, as well as thriving professionally, the actress was also in a good place in her family life, adopting son Roan, with husband Phil Bronstein.
However, the marriage unfortunately fell apart three years later, a time in which she said she “lost everything.”
“I lost everything,” she says. “I lost all my money. I lost custody of my child. I lost my career. I lost all those things that you feel are your real identity and your life.”
“I never really got most of it back,” she adds, “but I’ve reached a point where I’m okay with it, where I really do recognize that I’m enough,” she told the publication.
The star reveals ‘serious consequences’ after health scare
Although The Basic Instinct star thankfully survived the terrifying ordeal, she told PEOPLE that she now needs a full eight hours sleep to help prevent any seizures.
“I need eight hours of uninterrupted sleep for my brain medication to work so that I don’t have seizures,” the 65-year-old revealed.
The star also described herself as a “disability hire” and explained how her health has affected the acting roles she gets.
“Because of that I don’t get hired a lot. These are the things that I’ve been dealing with for the past 22 years, and I am open about that now,” she revealed.
Recently the star appeared in Rita Ora’s You Only Love Me music video.
It seems like Sharon saved Rita’s day earlier this year as she thanked the icon in her Instagram caption, as she penned:
“A true icon @sharonstone Thank you for being a part of my ‘You Only Love Me’ video with me. You saved the day with my dress delivery!”
