Sarah Jessica & Matthew Broderick release baby names: Tabitha & Marion

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have released the names of their newborn twin girls, born Monday afternoon in Ohio. The names: Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge. Um… lovely. No, I’m not being judgy, those are very far from the worst celebrity baby names. I wonder if Marion is going to go my Mary… I wonder if Tabitha will go by Tabby. Maybe I’m warped because I grew up with an extreme cat-fancier mother, but don’t the little girls’ names sound like cat names? I can totally see my mom naming her cats Tabitha, Marion and Loretta. SJP and Broderick’s rep says that Elwell and Hodge are family names… which, yes, they would have to be. I can’t see SJP sitting with the baby name book and yelling out “Elwell! That’s the ticket!”

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have confirmed they welcomed their twins girls, via a surrogate, on Monday.

“Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are delighted to announce the healthy arrival of their two daughters at 3:58 p.m. on June 22 in Ohio,” their rep tells Usmagazine.com in a statement.

“Marion Loretta Elwell Broderick weighed 5 lbs., 11 oz., and Tabitha Hodge Broderick weighed 6 pounds,” the statement continues. “Both Hodge and Elwell are family names on Parker’s side.”

“The babies are doing beautifully and the entire family is over the moon,” the statement concludes.

News first broke in April that the couple of 12 years were expecting twin girls with the help of a surrogate. Broderick, 47, and Parker, 44, have a son, James Wilkie, 6.

As MSat reported yesterday, SJP and Matthew were in Ohio for the births, so my guess is that they, and the babies, are already on route to New York. SJP is probably going to spend the summer with the babies, then go to work this fall on the Sex and the City sequel. I just checked to see if SJP had any projects lined up for the summer, and it doesn’t look like she does. So at least we know all of those rumored fights about nannies were probably off the mark. I hope both SJP and Matthew stick around and really spend time with the babies. As for seeing the twin girls, I suspect SJP and Broderick will do the same thing they did with James Wilke – they’ll pose publicly for all of the paparazzi, so everyone gets a picture, and then that’s it.
