Emma Stone is dating an SNL writer & director named Dave McCary
For movie stars, I can see the appeal of dating someone who works at Saturday Night Live. SNL people are celebrities but not crazy-famous. They’re well-connected but not the most “important” people in the room. They’re probably pretty funny too. Ben Affleck is dating a talent booker at SNL. Scarlett Johansson is dating Colin Jost, an on-air talent and writer on SNL. And now Emma Stone has an SNL boyfriend as well!
Emma Stone has a new man in her life: She’s dating “SNL” writer and segment director Dave McCary, as exclusively revealed on “Page Six TV.” McCary’s just the latest “SNL” staffer to date a Hollywood star to appear on the show. Ben Affleck’s dating show producer Lindsay Shookus, and “Weekend Update” anchor Colin Jost is seeing Scarlett Johansson after she hosted the show and later made a cameo as Ivanka Trump. Page Six exclusively revealed they were caught kissing at an “SNL” afterparty in May after she guest-starred on the show.
Stone — who stars as Billie Jean King in “Battle of the Sexes” — hosted the NBC comedy sketch show last December, but she also appeared as a surprise guest this month for its season premiere when her “La La Land” co-star Ryan Gosling hosted. She then attended the afterparty at hotspot Tao. McCary’s worked at “SNL” since 2014.
The 32-year-old also directed this year’s quirky indie movie, “Brigsby Bear,” starring “SNL” comic Kyle Mooney, who’s also a childhood pal. McCary and Stone were spotted together at the movie’s premiere in June. Stone, 28, split in 2015 from her boyfriend Andrew Garfield, with whom she starred in “The Amazing Spider-Man” in 2012. There was speculation over the summer that they were rekindling their romance, but the purported fling seemingly fizzled.
It’s worth noting that Emma Stone lives full-time in New York, not LA. Emma has an apartment in New York, but she’s not really down with, like, New York nightlife. She’s not falling out of New York Ubers at 3 am, is what I’m saying. She probably doesn’t meet a lot of interesting single guys her age, so I sort of understand how she could have met Dave McCary and something pinged. Also: man, does he seem like her “type,” right? She likes her men to look a little bit nerdy and a little bit intense. A hipster with ambition, that seems like her type. (She also seems to go for guys with dark hair and dark eyes.)
