He received first-team all-district and first-team all-city honors while playing football as a senior and was voted the Berkner High School’s defensive back of the year. He competed for the 4 x 100 m (43.05) and 4 x 200 m (1:32.77) relay teams in track and field.

Talib was a two-star recruit for college football during his final year, according to Rivals.com. He received interest from Baylor, Arizona, Kansas State, Wyoming, Tulsa, and Kansas. He made the decision to sign an NLI to play for Kansas.
